Our Team

Kim Irving

Kim is the President of ERMC.

Through various senior executive and leadership roles, he brings extensive experience in strategy, operational management and communications in the finance sector. He has worked for Canada Trust, TD Canada Trust, TD Bank USA and ATB Financial, has owned businesses and has lead and managed a new company start up.
His strong business acumen coupled with a track record of working with stakeholders to develop and implement key strategic initiatives provides the balance of corporate and tactical expertise our customers require.

He has been directly involved in developing an industry leading strategy for US banking, merging two of Canada largest financial institutions, implementing a major SAP initiative and has lead provincial and multi-provincial sales and service teams in Canada. One of his key achievements was the development and implementation of a culture shifting sales and service strategy at ATB Financial. The program included industry leading behavioral training, customer experience modeling, coaching, management best practices and tracking. Working with the senior executive group through to the front line associates, the program had a significant impact on productivity, customer satisfaction and employee engagement.

His involvement on various boards, ranging from publicly traded companies to not for profit organizations, brings a strategic and results oriented approach to key decision making at senior leadership levels. Developing and implementing effective governance and oversight programs is a specific area of specialty.


Paul Riopel

Paul has over 30 year of experience in Emergency Preparedness and Response. He is recognized as an industry leader in Emergency Response and is the founder of ERMC.

Paul’s professional experience includes delivering Emergency Planning and Preparedness consulting to literally hundreds of clients in industry and government. His areas of expertise include: hazardous material audits, risk identification, plan development, plan audits, training, exercises and full-scale simulations. He also consults organizations on crisis communications, incident command, emergency operations centres, and equipment requirements for emergency response.


Ed Wendlandt, B.Sc., M.Sc

Ed joined ERMC in 2003 after a distinguished career in the Canadian military that included responsibility for and delivery of Emergency Response. As Senior Vice President of ERMC he is responsible for the management of all of ERMC’s daily operations and execution of our strategic plan for growth. Ed is active in consulting with clients on emergency planning, auditing, preparing training resources, exercises and training delivery. Mr. Wendlandt is also fully experienced in working with clients on Incident Command and Emergency Operations Centre set up, training and operation. He also has worked with clients on Business Continuity Plan development.

Specifically, Ed has emergency preparedness and response experience with clients across all industries, including oil & gas, utilities, chemical, transportation and government.


Bruno Cornejo, CBCI

Bruno has over 13 years of Emergency Preparedness and Planning experience, all of it with ERMC. His experience in working with virtually our entire client base gives him a broad perspective in addressing the Emergency Response needs of our customers. This experience also allows him to draw on a variety of client events and valid scenarios ensuring practical and effective delivery of services.

Bruno has specific skills in working with clients on audits, emergency plan development, training and exercise development and delivery. He also delivers Emergency Operations Centre training and Incident Command training. He is recognized as an Alberta-based Incident Command System (ICS) 100,200 and 300 level instructor and is included on the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) list of approved instructors and the list of Alberta-based ICS instructors maintained by the Office of the Fire Commissioner.


Marcel Adamkewicz, CET

Marcel’s experience includes municipal disaster services and industrial emergency response management. This includes the development of a municipal and regional Emergency Social Services Plans, Industrial ERP and Industrial Pandemic Plan.

A former Emergency Response Specialist with Alberta EnviroFuels Inc., Marcel has 15 years of direct experience in fire fighting (Industrial / Strategy & Tactics), Technical Rescue, and emergency management. Marcel served on the executive of the Strathcona District Mutual Assistance Program (SDMAP), most recently as Chairman. He is intimately familiar with pipeline and facility ERP requirements and response and the integration of industrial response within mutual aid frameworks.

Marcel has numerous certifications in Level II Firefighting, Fire Ground Leadership (Strategy and Tactics), Industrial Incident Command, Modern Safety Management, Accident / Incident Investigation (DNV-ILCI) and most recently an Emergency Management certificate through the Justice Institute of B.C. He is also a certified ICS Instructor through ICS Canada.


Bruce Hertz, B.Sc., MBA

Bruce is the Vice President of Business Development for ERMC.  He has worked on a wide variety projects within ERMC including development of the online learning and research tool, exercise/drill participation and evaluation, report development, and plan writing.

Bruce has also participated in numerous training workshops including: Crisis Communications, Business Continuity, Mutual Aid Response, EOC’s and Pandemic Planning for communities.

Bruce has a strong background in business planning and consulting.   A former partner in a management consulting firm (11 years), his experience includes strategic planning, operational plans and training delivery.   In addition, he has experience in working with a variety of for profit and not profit organizations in designing and implementing change management processes.


Trista Gable, B.A.

Trista is responsible for the administration and office functions within ERMC.  This includes bookkeeping, billing, payables and job costing.


Associate Consultants

The following individuals bring their specific areas of expertise and knowledge to ERMC projects.

Mr. Bill Isaacs

Bill is the Manager, Emergency Response Planning and System Security for Union Gas, a Spectra Energy company.

Bill has responsibility for the development, implementation and measurement of the company’s corporate emergency response program, which includes coordinating the development and ongoing updating of processes and procedures governing the company’s response to field incidents, minimizing the impacts of security processes for the pipeline system and raising awareness and education of emergency response and system security procedures.

Bill is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists, the Ontario Association of Emergency Managers, the Canadian Society for Non-destructive testing and is an associate member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

Union Gas Limited is a major Canadian natural gas storage, transmission and distribution company based in Ontario with nearly 100 years of experience and service to customers. The distribution business serves 1.3 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in more than 400 communities across northern, south-western and eastern Ontario.


Mr. Laird Burton

Laird is a retired Fire Chief from Strathcona County in Alberta. Strathcona County neighbors the City of Edmonton and is home to “refinery row” in Alberta and has some of the largest industrial chemical and petroleum processing facilities in North America. Laird is considered an expert in emergency management, fire and risk. He is called upon as an expert witness at tribunals and hearings. Laird has served as the Supervisor, Course Development Officer and Lead Instructor at the Alberta Fire Training School and has also served as the Manager, Office of Emergency Management at the University of Alberta.

Laird possess numerous professional accreditations in fire and emergency management including certifications of: 1021 Level 4 Fire Officer, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 1041 Level 3 Fire Service Instructor, NFPA and International Fire Service Accreditation (IFSA) Congress Certified.

His legislative and professional association involvements include:
